Samurai High Grades and Masters

The Friary Judo Club has had a great couple of months at top level competition.  Firstly Matthew Harte, who is also the Club Coach, won a Bronze Medal at the British Masters Championship held in London.  By winning a medal at this event this qualifies him onto the prestigious British Masters squad.

He has then followed that up by going better and winning all his fights at the Samurai Masters competition in Birmingham thus winning Gold at that event.

Mark Smith also competed at the Samurai high grades event and fought excellently to take a Bronze medal in the 1st Dan Black belt section, also earning him points towards his 2nd Dan.

New Black Belt for Judo Club

Congratulations to Jonathan who gained his Black belt last weekend!!!!!

Midland Area Green Belt and below championship 26 April 2009

Well done to all those who entered the competition.  In the Senior section Adam Nixon won Silver in the U73kg category and Cammy Shields won Bronze in the U81kg.  Great results as it was their first competition and they fought really hard to get the result.  Well done also to Josh Plant, Max Hibbs and Joe Harte who fought in the junior event but were all unable to reach the medals with very stiff opposition.  Videos below of both Adam and Cammy.

Grading March 22 2009

Well done to everyone that graded in March and who progressed their grade.  The club had 18 members progress their grade and hope that this will spur them on to a higher level of Judo!
